Six interface redesigns
Uniquely branded sites
Background
InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (IHG) is the world’s most global hotel company and largest in the world by number of rooms its portfolio of lodgings, including Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suites and Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts. Prior to 2000, InterContinental was called Bass Hotel & Resorts, which was related to the brewery company. In 1998, Bass decided to redesign its e-commerce web site and add more functionality. They wanted to make it more customer friendly and provide more information. The objective was to make it quicker and easier for customers to book their rooms.

Challenge
The project required the delivery of multiple Web interfaces for brands under the Bass Hotel and Resorts umbrella as well as design interface elements to fit within a specific template framework. Beyond the technical execution of the project, each brand and brand extension was struggling how to present their own brand on the web. The sites that were to be constructed were Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Inn, Priority Club and Bass Hotel.

Solution
My responsibilities included gathering both technical and brand requirements. I provided leadership and direction to the designers in order to develop several designs of each web site. Each brand manager then selected a single design from which to further develop the interface elements. The branding represented each groups unique positioning within the hospitality marketplace.
